Disappointing Movie

We spent last Sunday night relaxing and watching Jim Carrey in "A Christmas Carol".  I remember this movie not getting very good reviews so we didn't go to the movies to see it.  I'm so happy we didn't.  It is made by Disney and marketed to kids but it is not a kid movie.  The story went very much by the book and had some really freaky characters, like their version of the ghost of Christmas Past. 

The animation also had some surprises.  Every teenage boy in the movie was given quite a bit of acne.  This may have really been historically correct but we don't need or expect such accuracy in an animated film.  There wasn't any funny parts to lighten things up and my kids were just bored.  It was just plain weird.  I'll stick to my "A Muppets Christmas Carol" and my very favorite version of this story is George C. Scott as Scrooge.





One of My Favorite Movies

I watch this movie every Christmas season, "One Magic Christmas".  My husband usually finds me sniffling even when I try to hide.  Normally I do not recommend emotional movies as they leave me drained but this one is special. 
I like it because I can relate to the main character, a flustered mom.  I too feel at times that I'm the only one in the house with any sense of reality and responsibility.  I know this is not the case but being rational is not one of my strengths.  For example, I can be a real penny pincher. Recently, I threw a fit when my husband threw a $10 bottle of honey into the shopping cart without me knowing until I reviewed the receipt.  He was thinking that he got the most for the money and I'm thinking that $10 is just outrageous for honey!  It totally ruined my "savings in coupons" and "total money spent" ratio on the receipt.  I returned it and bought the cheap honey bear.
Back to the movie, this mom is struggling with having a Christmas spirit in the midst of her husband being laid off, working for a jerk of a boss, and just being "Mom".  She learns the hard way what life would be without her children and her husband.  It's a great story with a good ending. Love it!

Iron Man 2

My parents volunteered at the last minute to babysit while we see a movie this weekend. Fun! We loved the first Iron Man and of course had to see the next one. I'm thankful it wasn't in 3D. Some of the previews I was excited about turned out to be in 3D. That angers me.

Back to the movie, I thought Mickey Rourke who plays one of the bad guys was awesome. His career is back on for sure! I've already forgotten all that unfortunate plastic surgery business.


Sam Rockwell was also great in his bad guy part. He's one of those actors you've seen before but cannot remember where. Not anymore!


Of course Robert Downey was his usual goodness and Gwyneth. Scarlett was beautiful but her acting was a bit flat.

Overall the movie was entertaining and funny. I loved it.

Alice In Wonderland

We went with some friends to see Alice In Wonderland opening weekend. It was fun going out with friends to dinner and a movie. The movie however was not my favorite. Number one problem, I don't care for 3D movies. I did not realize it was 3D until I was charged $12.25 for one ticket. I don't understand the whole 3D movement, it doesn't make the movie any better in my opinion.

The movie began with funny parts. Alice is at a fancy party where she discovers it is actually an engagement party, HER engagement party. Of course the man who asks for her hand is a bore, unattractive, and has an overbearing mother. What does a girl do??? She makes a quick excuse then falls into a hole.



The movie overall was too dark and weird. I was expecting Wonderland to turn beautiful at the end, it did not. We discover what Alice does after her adventure. She does not marry the mama's boy but goes into business with his father who funds explorers. Odd. I give this movie a C.

Bewitched

"Bewitched" came on the movie channels this week. I was behind on some laundry and thought I'd watch it. I had no idea it was going to be so entertaining! I LOVED IT! Nicole Kidman plays a real witch who gets cast to play Samantha in an updated Bewitched. Will Ferrel plays a washed up conceited actor cast to be Darren. Just looking at Will makes me laugh.
Of course they fall in love but have some hilarious moments along the way. Other characters from the original Bewitched made an appearance. They were all awesome, Uncle Arthur, Aunt Clara, Mrs. Cravitz, and my fav Endora played by Shirley Maclaine. She was so perfect.


Nicole wore comfy colorful sweaters. My favorite was this one, a pretty light blue embellished with sequins.

Penelope

I was in the mood for an artsy movie this week and remembered that we had never seen "Penelope" with Christina Ricci. If you recall, her character is born with a pig nose and ears to a rich couple. Penelope's mother is convinced that the pig curse will break if she were to marry into another well to do family but alas all the rich boys run away screaming when they see her. All but one, our hero who falls in love with Penelope's personality before he actually sees her face.
Frankly I appreciated Penelope's wardrobe more than the story line. She wore lots of colorful thin sweaters, skirts with colored tights, and lovely Mary-Jane's. I was inspired! If a girl with a pig nose can pull it off, surely I can too!

Recent Movies

We go through long spells of not seeing a movie and then I saw 3 within a few days. The first, "Avatar", I was not that excited about seeing but I didn't want to be left out. I don't really care for 3D movies or about make believe blue people. However, I'm glad I went. Although I could have done without the Liberal views that we're destroying the Earth blah blah blah. By the end of it I did care for the blue people.

I finally made it to "New Moon". I was worried that it would leave the theater before I got there. My husband stayed home with the kids this time. I'm so glad that he did. Although he's quite tolerant, the whiny teenage love talk would have put him in a bad mood.

Edward: "I promise never to put you through anything like this ever again. This is the last time you'll ever see me."

Bella: "The absence of him is everywhere I look. It's like a huge hole has been punched through my chest."

Jacob: "I know what he did to you, but Bella, I want you to know I will never hurt you."

Mom and I giggled through a few parts. Like every time Jasper showed up, they made him look ridiculous! His hair was very granny bouffant and the color was not quite right. But we enjoyed the movie. I'm really looking forward to Bella being a vampire!

Last night Chuck and I saw "Sherlock Holmes". It was the best of all! Witty and funny, I want to see it again. Normally I don't think men look good with a mustache but Jude Law pulled it off. He was great and so was Robert Downey, Jr, as usual.

Julie and Julia

I've been waiting for this movie to come out for some time. Chuck and I went last Saturday but it ended in disaster. I noticed that all of the people in the theater were 20+ years older than the two of us. I had the thought that Chuck would have to put down his nachos to help some of the elderly to get to a seat safely once the lights went out. Our theater has tricky steps leading into the seats. You may think you are standing in the isle but you're really standing on a step.
You can guess what happened. An older lady on the opposite side of the theater fell and it appeared and sounded like she broke her nose and leg. Chuck ran down to help immediately and I called 911. It seemed to take forever for the paramedics to get there and the poor woman was moaning and crying. Things just got more painful and vocal once they arrived and had to move her. It was horrible and we felt so helpless. We left before they could figure out how to get her out of the isle. What a great talent the people in the medical field have to stay focused on their job and not get emotional. I never heard what happened to that poor woman.
Anyway we're going to go again tonight and I'm off to get on something sexy and cute. I just might put on my false eye lashes. I'll let you know if the movie is worth letting go of $50!

Great Movie!

Last night we watched this movie and laughed and laughed. My husband enjoyed it too. I prefer comedies over anything else and I would highly recommend this one. We also watched "Eagle Eye" with Shia Labeouf the night before. It wasn't great, in fact it was quite tiresome.
